Presence Film
Soderbergh challenges his directorial skills with this innovative ghostly tale captured wholly through the eyes of the spirit. When a household including mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe moves into their fresh home, the lens – representing the ghost – shadows their actions. The Black Phone
The director's claustrophobic thriller stands strong even without a follow-up. Located in 1970s Colorado, a series of child abductions has left the youth frightened. When Finney is taken by the villain and held captive in a dungeon, he anticipates a terrible outcome. However, the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with ghostly voices giving advice, and the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. October 11th, nighttime, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for Mammon in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish biopic about the fallen TV preacher and her criminal husband. Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who declares early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye commence monetising the people's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of tacky decor, bad makeup and hypocrisy, however Chastain succeeds to present the real-life figure in a likable light. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
